1. Introduction
Welcome to the Astoria Park Connect 4 Competition! This rule book outlines the guidelines and procedures to ensure a smooth and enjoyable event for all participants.
2. General Rules
1. Eligibility:
• The competition is open to all participants who have registered by August 11, 2024.
2. Registration:
• Participants must check in at the registration desk upon arrival. Verify your registration and receive your match schedule.
3. Conduct:
• Players must display good sportsmanship and respect towards all participants and organizers. Any form of harassment or disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
3. Game Rules
1. Objective:
• The goal of Connect 4 is to be the first player to connect four of your colored discs in a row either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.
2. Setup:
• Each game will be played on a standard Connect 4 board. Ensure that the board is set up correctly before starting each game.
3. Gameplay:
• Players take turns dropping one disc into the board. The disc falls straight down and occupies the lowest available space in the column.
4. Winning:
• A player wins by connecting four of their discs in a row in any direction. Once a player connects four discs, the game is over and that player is declared the winner.
5. Tie Games:
• If the board fills up without any player connecting four discs in a row, the game is a draw. In a draw situation, a rematch will be played.
4. Tournament Structure
1. Format:
• The tournament will follow a Single Elimination format. Players are eliminated after one loss.
2. Match Length:
• Each match is the best of 3 games. The first player to win 2 games advances to the next round.
3. Seeding:
• Participants will be randomly drawn for initial matchups.
4. Time Limits:
• Each game has a maximum time limit of 15 minutes. If a game is not completed within this time, the player with the most discs connected wins.
5. Scoring and Bracket Management
1. Scorekeeping:
• A scorekeeper at each table will record the outcome of each game and report results to the central scorekeeping area.
2. Bracket Updates:
• The bracket will be updated regularly and displayed at the central location for participants to check their progress.
6. Dispute Resolution
1. Disputes:
• Any disputes or rule clarifications should be addressed to a tournament official immediately.
2. Final Decisions:
• Tournament officials have the final say in any disputes or rule interpretations.
7. Prizes and Awards
1. Prizes:
• Awards will be given to the Champion and Runner-Up.
• Additional small prizes or certificates will be given to all participants.
2. Award Ceremony:
• The awards ceremony will take place at TBD.
Winners must be present to receive their awards.
8. Health and Safety
1. First Aid:
• First aid supplies will be available on-site. In case of any medical emergency, notify a volunteer or official immediately.
